At least one policeman was killed and 10 others sustained injuries after a bomb went off in north Egypt's Gharbia governorate.
The bomb exploded late yesterday outside a bank in el-Mahalla el-Kobra city of the governorate, a security source said.
Following the incident, ambulances rushed to the spot and took the injured to a nearby hospital.
The area was soon cordoned off by the security forces.
It was not immediately known that who planted the bomb in the area as further investigations were underway.
Egypt has witnessed many violent attacks by militants since the January 2011 revolution that toppled ex-president Hosni Mubarak.
The attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
