The militants attacked the check post in Sarki Payala area in Hangu district bordering restive Kurram and Orakzai tribal agencies yesterday, killing one policeman and injuring two others.
The terrorists fled away after police retaliated the attack, officials said, adding, security forces have launched search operation in the area to nab the culprits involved in the attack.
Meanwhile, a key Taliban commander with Rs 5 million bounty on his head was arrested from Charsadda district of Khyber Pakthunkhwa.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mardan Saeed Wazir said that Amanullah alias Irfan Khurasani, who had a bounty of Rs 5 million on his head, was arrested during a raid.
Abu Bakar was said to be involved in attacks on political leaders, Wazir said, adding that about 150 kilograms of explosives were also recovered from the arrested militants.
The Pakistan Army is engaged in a major offencive against militants in the Khyber Pakthunkhwa province after Taliban last week attacked an army-run school in Peshawar, killing 150 people, mostly children.
