Policemen from Maoist-prone areas dominate DGP's honours list

Policemen in Maoist-hit area received the maximum number of awards in the DGP's honours list on the occasion of 79th Police Foundation Day today.
South-western range IGP Y K Jethwa, Koraput SP Awinash Kumar and Rayagada SP Pandit Rajesh Uttam Rao were three IPS officers who were awarded the DGP's medal.
Among others, six inspectors, 11 sub-inspectors, two assistant sub-inspectors, seven havildars, 13 constables and three commandos of SOG were also felicitated for valour and gallantry last year.
"For their distinguished services and commendable performances in Maoist-prone areas, many policemen from Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Nuapada, Ganjam and Gajapati districts were awarded," DGP Prakash Mishra said after felicitating the policemen.
Although, the Foundation Day was celebrated on April 1, the awards were not given then because of the elections in the state.
