Policemen injured in scuffle with women protesters

Four policemen were today injured in a scuffle with women protesters demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
Four policemen were injured by women protesters camping near the state secretariat while they were being shifted to a football ground, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang said.
Over 40 protesters have been arrested since September 4 for arson and attacking vehicles during the agitation, police said.
Around 200 personnel of central paramilitary forces have arrived to maintain law and order ahead of a two-day picketing of offices (starting tomorrow) called by the protesters led by the influential Khasi Students Union (KSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) and eight pressure groups.

The ILP is an official travel document issued by the Government of India to allow travel of an Indian citizen into a restricted or protected area for a limited period of time.
Currently, the ILP is applicable in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland.

Meanwhile, normal life was affected in five districts in the Garo Hills region today by a two-day bandh called by the militant Garo National Liberation Army.
Government offices, educational institutions, business houses and markets were closed, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi told PTI.
Last night a truck parked at a stone crushing unit in Selbalgre, 22 km from Tura, was damaged in a grenade explosion.

No one was injured, the police said.
