Policewomen security squads to be deployed in Punjab: Sukhbir

Aiming to enhance security of women and check crimes against them, Punjab Government has decided to deploy security squads of armed policewomen in each district of the state.
The teams of policewomen would be deployed near markets, educational institutions and other busy places, Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal said today while flagging off the first unit of Women Armed Special Protection Squad for six districts of Bathinda Zone at Badal village.
Pilot phase of the project will be implemented in Bathinda Zone and 10 teams have been made in each of the six districts to ensure the proper implementation of the project, besides launching a special patrolling drive.
During this phase, the teams would discharge their duties at Sri Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda, Faridkot, Mansa, Ferozepur and Fazilka districts from 8 AM to 5 PM.
The women cops would be equipped with a revolver, pair of handcuffs, baton, chilly powder, wireless system and sound system to send an alert, he said. The teams would work under beat system.
The exercise would soon be carried out in the remaining districts of Punjab, he said.

Instructions have been issued to all concerned authorities to immediately resolve pending issues pertaining to women, Badal said, adding, instructions have also been issued to the police authorities not to call women in police stations for enquiry procedures.
He said Punjab has recruited 3,233 women constables while 1,200 more women constables would be recruited in next three years including 338 women sub-inspectors.
He also said the process of setting up special 20 judicial courts dedicated to women was on.
