Miloutz Laphowski,on a visit to the Manipal University under a student exchange programme, had gone with his friends for a picnic to the beach when the tragedy occurred, Udupi Superintendent of Police M B Borelingahaiah told PTI.
The deceased's friend Martin Blubis was rescued by two fishermen who were fishing in the area, he said.
The sea was rough and the Polish nationals had entered it disregarding local weathermen's warning, he said adding the body of the victim was yet to be traced.
Miloutz had arrived at the Manipal University on July 1.
