"Defining moment has come in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir where people have to stand up to the massive challenge ahead to pull the state out of political uncertainties and economic deprivation," Mufti said while addressing an election rally in Kishtwar today.
He said the Assembly elections in the state are about safeguarding the distinct Constitutional position of Jammu and Kashmir and standing up against the divisive forces.
"It is about representing the people's aspirations, upholding their dignity and ensuring a better future for the generations to come," he said.
PDP's aim is to script a "new chapter" in the political history of the state by removing "trust deficit" and doing away with physical barriers among different regions and sub-regions, he said.

"PDP has emerged as a cementing force to unite all religions, regions and sub-regions of the state. We want to play a historic role to change the destiny of the people by setting up a new system where every individual will get equal opportunity of growth and development," Mufti said.
While urging people of the Chenab Valley to vote for his party, Mufti said the area would witness a "massive turnaround" during the next six years if people gave a decisive mandate to PDP.
He said while ensuring better physical connectivity through all-weather roads and tunnels, focus of his government would be to harness the immense potential of this area for power generation and tourism promotion to generate employment avenues for the locals.
