The regional office of Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) at Rayagada has slapped closure notices on two hotels at Jeypore in Koraput district for opearating without pollution board's approval.
Official sources said the two hotels did not apply for the consent to establish and operate despite repeated reminders.
"We had served show-cause notices on these hotels and the owners were asked to reply within 15 days. They did not respond to it," said OSPCB's regional officer (Rayagada) Mitrasen Majhi.
A copy of the notice was sent to the public health department, southco and Koraput SP yesterday for necessary action, he said.
Majhi said the hotels lacked effluent treatment facility and discharged waste water into a nearby drain.
Two other hotels, which had been served notices, have applied for the pollution control board's approval, the sources said.
