Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today expressed concern over the rise in number of divorce cases in the Union Territory and said the FCCs should play an effective role in ensuring peace and mutual understanding among couples.
Handing over certificates to functionaries of the Family Counselling Centres (FCCs) on the concluding day of the two day refresher course, the Chief Minister asked them to go into the actual causes of divorce.
"Your close understanding of the factors contributing to divorce of couples would be of help to restore peace and mutual understanding among the husbands and wives in the larger interest of welfare of the children," he noted.
Announcing a hike in honorarium for Protection officers affiliated to FCCs, to Rs 10,000 from the present Rs 7000, Narayanasamy said the FCCs should spread out their activities in rural areas.
Functionaries of some of the FCCs including those from Karaikal region referred to the successful settlement of disputes in families who brought to their notice domestic violence and also disputes over properties.
