: Puducherry Director General of Police Balaji Srivastava reviewed the security measures at Karaikal port in the Union Territory.
The DGP held a review meeting with Captain Vijay Nicodemus, Chief Operating Officer of the port and other officials on Saturday and then undertook a short journey in a patrol vessel in the sea.
With a view to ensuring coastal security and preventing unlawful activities, the DGP reviewed the security measures and other facilities in the port, said port officials.
During the review meeting, the DGP stressed that the port authorities should keep a tight vigil and prevent any possible infiltration of strangers.
He also called urged the port administration to keep the Karaikal police informed on security-related activities in the port.
The DGP also suggested that the port, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), could contribute to strengthening the coastal security too.

Karaikal Senior Superintendent of Police Rahul Alwal, Vice-President of Port operations Rajeshwar Reddy and other officials were present during the DGP's review.
It may be noted that KaraikalPort, an all-weatherportcommissioned in 2009,handles coal, fertilisers, petroleum products, edible oil, mineral ores, and general cargo.
