The Puducherry administration has initiated steps to implement measures to protect children in schools and to ensure a safe environment.
The move is significant as it comes in the wake of the recent murder of a seven-year-old boy in a school in Gurgaon.
Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has forwarded a book prepared by her Secretary G.Theva Needhi Dhas during his earlier tenure as Director of School Education here highlighting the various measures schools should take for safety on and off campuses for security and protection of children.
A release from Raj Nivas (office of the Lt Governor) said today Bedi had sent the book to the Education Minister of Puducherry to pass it on to all schools with a request to incorporate safety measures and update for uniformity in practice.
Dhas has in his book written in Tamil listed "multi hazardous challenges" going beyond unauthorised visitors entering schools or physical exploitation.
Dhas would soon bring out the English version of the book, the release said.

The safety measures covered fire safety, food, laboratory, playground, environmental, roads and drinking water safety, as per the release.
The book was prepared by the official in association with the teachers of the Scouts and Guides attached to various schools in the Union Territory in 2005.
With incidents of insecurity faced by children in schools across the country the government feels that there is a need to give effect to the recommendations made by the official in the book.
