Pooja Chhabra ends dharna for liquor ban
Press Trust of India Jaipur Former MLA Gurusharan Chhabra's daughter-in-law, Pooja Chhabra, who was on a hunger strike demanding liquor ban and strengthening of Lokayukta in the state has called off her protest after assurance by the government to look into her demand.
Pooja (35), who called off the strike last night, was carrying forward the agitation of her late father-in-law, a former Janta Dal MLA, who died on November 3 after fasting for 32 days.
Family sources said Social Justice and Empowerment Department Minister Arun Chaturvedi offered her juice to break her hunger strike and assured her to look into the demands and take appropriate action in three months.
Pooja had started her agitation on November 23 outside Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje's residence at Civil Lines which is a prohibited area under Section 144 of CrPC, and had continued her strike outside Sodala Police station where she had been taken by cops.
She was shifted to the hospital after her condition deteriorated but was resolute in her demand to continue the agitation.
