Poonam shines in Chhattisgarh's win

Poonam Chaturvedi played a stellar role in Chhattisgarh's 74-41 win over Jeppiaar Institute of Technology by netting 31 points in the women section of the All-India Invitation Basketball tournament here today.
Poonam, who is as tall as 6'10, scored at will using her height to great advantage and emerged the highest scorer in the contest. She was adjudged player of the match.
Hema scored 16 points for JIT.
In a match in the men's section, Indian Overseas Bank humbled Satyabama University 84-56 (HT: 42-24). IOB's Prasanna Venkatesh (17) and Satyabama's Venkat Reddy (15) were the top scorers of the match.
In the other two matches, Income-Tax, Chennai beat Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu team 82-73. The SDAT team was trailing 27-38 at half-time but improved in the next half with the help of Nagaraj who scored 19 valuable points to be adjudged 'Man of the Match'.
However the tall and well-built I.T. Players gave tough fight to their young opponents and went away with 9 points win Hakim, the left-hander, was the top scorer for the winners with 35 points.
It was the second loss for SDAT in the tournament. Earlier they went down to Satyabama University 59-72.
