Poor patronage of two special trains in Salem-Namakkal-Karur section may force the Southern Railway to discontinue them, its Salem Division said.
Patronage for these trains run daily and on Sundays respectively since September 16 2015 was found to be very poor, the Division said in a release.
The average occupancy was between 13 to 21 per cent for Trains 06739 and 06740 in Salem-Karur section on Sundays 06743 and 06744 between Salem and Karur (daily).
The release said that the specials would be continued only if there was sufficient demand and patronage.
Besides the special trains, the Railways operates two pairs of regular passenger services in the morning and evening.
Hence, the Divisional administration requested passengers to make use of the special trains and help the Southern Railway continue their operation.
