Amid a nationwide outrage over incidents of rape of minor girls, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh has said that pornography is one of the major causes behind the rise in sexual crimes against children.

Singh said the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in Madhya Pradesh would write to the Centre for enacting a strict law banning porn sites.

"Our studies show that porn movies are one of the major reasons behind spurt in sexual crimes involving children. We wanted to ban such movies (websites serving pornographic content).

"The state is going to request the Centre to ban porn websites by enacting a stringent law. This is an international issue. We can deal with such crimes with strictness and awareness," the minister told reporters here yesterday.

The minister said that the state government had blocked 25 porn sites, which he said was "not enough".

He hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the tough law prescribing stringent punishment, including death penalty, for rapists of girls below 12 years of age.
