The checks began after the June 16 road accident involving a private luxury bus, owned by a city-based travel agency, in Maharashtra, in which 29 devotees from Andhra Pradesh bound for the temple town of Shirdi were killed.

The exercise covered Hyderabad and districts of Krishna, West Godavari, East Godavari, among others.

The searches and checks were being conducted to find out whether there was any violation of laws like Motor Vehicles Act.

Officials said they have seized "a large number of buses" ever since the checks began and also filed cases for various alleged offences.
