In a major relief to thousands of retired government employees across Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court today directed the chief secretary to get reports from each department on pending cases regarding payment of post-retirement dues.
A Lucknow bench of the court observed that if there was no legal impediment, a direction be issued to the department concerned to dispose of those matters within shortest period, with a maximum of three months.
The bench comprising justices S N Shukla and S K Singh directed the chief secretary to fix the responsibility of the erring officers if lapses were found on their part.
It made the observation after it came to know that the state government had issued a government order to this effect stipulating the period for payment of post-retiral dues but the instructions were not being adhered to by the officers in strict sense.
The bench issued the directives in course of hearing of a service petition moved by a retired government employee demanding his post-retiral dues which were not paid even after one-and-a-half years after his retirement.
The petitioner, who retired as assistant engineer in Minor Irrigation and Ground Water Department on August 31, 2015, had not been paid his dues. Considering that his representation was already pending with the department, the court directed the principal secretary to process his matter and ensure that the dues were paid within next two months.
