Postal department to launch CBS in Jharkhand

The postal department is all set to launch its core-banking services in Jharkhand soon, a senior official today said.
The services, which was first launched in Chennai early this month, will be launched in the state as part of the second phase of its implementation, he said.
Core-banking services will be first implemented in six circles of the department across the country as a pilot project and will then be done in its remaining 22 circles, A S Prasad, Chief Post-Master General, Jharkhand, said.
Addressing a press conference here, Prasad said the anywhere-anytime banking services will cover all 454 post offices in the state within four months of its implementation, which was expected to start in the next fiscal.
The Data Centre of the project is already functional in Mumbai, he said.
Prasad described the initiative as world's largest roll- out covering 26,000 post offices across the country in a year's time.

Apart from core-banking services, the department has also launched International Financial System, a money movement and payment service on the lines of Western Union and Moneygram, and has signed a bilateral agreement with UAE and France while negotiation was on with other countries like Canada, European nations and Thailand.
About the performance of the department in Jharkhand, Prasad said it needed improvement while appreciating the performances of the Jamshedpur circle and added that one post office at Pardih and a non-delivery post office near new civil court here will be established by the end of this fiscal.
Prasad said the postal department was in negotiation with Jharkhand State Electricity Board for distribution and collection of electricity bills through the department.
