The Postal Department has set a target of opening 17 lakh saving bank accounts at its branches across Assam during 2015-16 financial year.
"In 2015-16, we are targeting to open 17 lakh additional saving bank accounts in Assam. This will be done gradually as we expand our core banking facilities," Chief Postmaster General (Assam Circle) B B Dave told reporters here.
The Postal Department had 65,03,436 accounts as on March 31, 2015, he said.
"At present, 236 post offices in Assam are offering core banking solutions to the customers. This will be increased gradually to all our branches," Dave said.
To have digitised postal network under the IT modernisation project, the Assam postal circle has already networked over 98 per cent of the operative offices to have dedicated trouble-free connectivity, he added.
The Assam circle would celebrate the National Postal Week from October 9 to 15 and would organise various events.
