Postmortem report of fire victim awaited, widow allowed to go
Press Trust of India Kolkata Police is awaiting the postmortem report into the case of an elderly person who was charred to death in his flat here even as his widow was allowed to go home after being questioned, a city police official said today.
The death of Ranjit Barat (63) was being suspected as a case of suicide or accident, but we (police) would take a call only after getting the postmortem report, the official said.
Barat's widow, who was rescued from another room of the flat in the early hours yesterday, was taken to the local police station as there was noone else present there.
The couple used to stay at Maniktala Housing Estate and there was a fire in one of the rooms in which Barat was charred to death.
Fire brigade and police officials recovered the body of Barat.
