Potato up 1.9% on strong demand, tight supply

Commodity for delivery in March moved up by 1.46%

Potato prices rose 1.98% to Rs 1,193.70 per quintal in futures trading today as indulged in creating positions, supported by strong demand in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato prices for delivery in April shot up by Rs 23.20, or 1.98% to Rs 1,193.70 per quintal in business turnover of 92 lots.

The potato for delivery in March also moved up by Rs 16.90, or 1.46% to Rs 1,177.50 per quintal in 66 lots.

Market analysts said besides strong demand in the spot market, restricted supplies from producing belts mainly pushed up potato prices at futures trade.
