The Arunachal Pradesh government has taken a step forward towards poverty alleviation with adoption of by-laws and Annual Action Plan (AAP) for the financial year 2013-14 under State Rural Livelihoods Mission (SRLM).
The by-laws and AAP were approved in the first governing body meeting of SRLM held here yesterday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, who is the president of the Mission's General Body, official sources said here today.
SRLM, constituted as an empowered body under Societies Registration Act, is in line with the Center's National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) or Aajeevika to implement new strategy of poverty alleviation woven around community based institutions.
The Mission which aims to promote diversified and gainful self-employment and wage employment opportunities for sustainable increase in incomes of the rural poor will closely work with the under-implementation Chief Minister's Livelihood Mission.
It is perceived that the Mission would work in conjunction with MG-NREGA for creating sustainable job opportunities in both wage and self-employment for rural poor, sources said.
Appreciating the officers for coming up with the by-laws and AAP for the Mission to be implemented in the state, Tuki emphasised for focusing on creation of self-employment avenues rather than provide the poor with jobs.
