Underling poverty as a weapon of mass destruction, legendary civil rights activist Jesse Jackson today said poverty breeds terrorism and focus should be on ending it.
"Poverty is a weapon of mass destruction. Poverty kills in mass, weakens the body and destroys dreams. Poverty breeds fear, it breeds terrorism. Thats why the target should be on ending poverty," Jackson, a disciple of Martin Luther King who ran for US presidency in 80's, said in a program here.
Stating that though both India and the US were the biggest democracies, he said there was a huge gap between surplus culture and deficit culture and called for democratisation of the economy.
Regretting the illiteracy rate among children in India, Jackson said that India was a leader in exporting talent across the globe as the economies of US and Britain were driven to a large extents by Indian talent.
Jackson who was here for a short trip visited Mother House, the headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity and Netaji Bhavan, the ancestral house of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
