"The Hot water trial run at the second unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant will be done shortly and generation of power would be done three months after completion of the trial run," KNPP Plant Director R S Sundar said.
He said preliminary work for setting up the third and fourth Power unit was going on and would probably be completed within the next five or six years.
Sundar was speaking to reporters tonight on the sidelines of the Atomic science Festival Prize distribution function.
He said Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission should give approval for trial production of power by the first unit. If approval was given for trial production, power would be sold at Rs 3.50 per unit.
He said the cost of the plant had increased twice due to delay in commencing production, which was scheduled for 2007 itself. The fall in the value of the Rupee was another reason for cost escalation.
