Hours after power tariff was hiked in the national capital, Delhi BJP urged the Centre to provide subsidy for consumers using electricity up to 600 units.
"Central government should take initiative to provide relief to Delhi's people by deciding to give subsidy for consumers whose power consumption are up to 600 units," Delhi BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana said.
He also said the Centre should make provisions in the Delhi budget for subsidy, so that Delhiites would get relief.
"This is the first time that BJP-led Central Government has allocated Rs 200 cr in the Union Budget for power supply infrastructure in the national capital," he said.
Earlier in the day, power tariff in Delhi was today hiked by up to 7.5 per cent for domestic consumers but power bills of 80 per cent consumers will come down as the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission withdrew a surcharge of up to 8 per cent for next three months.
For commercial consumers, DERC hiked the power rates by up to 11 per cent.
