State-run Goa Meat Complex Limited (GMCL) couldn't function due to a power cut in early hours of morning. "The problem persisted for few hours due to which there was delay in supply of beef. The vehicles waiting to load beef were stranded," GMCL managing director Uday Pednekar told PTI.
GMCL is the only abattoir licenced by the state government for slaughter of bulls.
The animals are slaughtered in the evening and the beef is stored in chillers before loading it in vehicles next day.
The abattoir was modernised recently at a cost Rs 13 crore. Around 25-30 animals are slaughtered at the facility everyday.
