"The power generation grew by 6.25 per cent at 1038.90 BUs in April-January this fiscal compared to 977.81 BUs in same period year ago," a power ministry official said.
"Strong focus on renewables is driving up total electricity generation figures," the official said.
The growth in power generation excluding from renewable sources was 5.04 per cent in April-January FY2016-17, the official said further.
During April-January, power generation from renewables like solar and wind rose by 26.32 per cent to 70.12 BUs compared to 55.51 BUs in the 10-month period year ago, the official stated.
India generated 95.33 BUs from sources like thermal, hydro and nuclear in January this year, up 3.48 per cent compared to 92.12 BUs output in same month year ago, the report said.
As per the report, India was targeting electricity generation of 101.06 BUs from conventional sources during the month of January 2017.
