Power supply to Kashmir valley was disrupted for a brief period after a tower of the 220-KV Kishanpur-Pampore transmission line collapsed due to a landslide triggered by rains in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district.
The tower collapsed due to the landslide and fell on a house at village Thard in Udhampur, 80 kms from here, last evening, snapping power supply from northern grid to Srinagar and Ramban districts, an official of Power Development Department (PDD) told PTI.
Several landslides occurred in Udhampur along Jammu- Srinagar national highway as the area and some other parts of Jammu region were lashed by intermittent rains over the past couple of days.
He said the PDD pressed its men into action immediately and the power transmission was restored temporarily by utilising the 132 KV transmission line.
The official said around Rs 50 lakh are required to restore the tower to ensure normal functioning of the 220-KV Kishanpur-Pampore transmission line.
A house belonging to one Mohammad Mirza suffered partial damage in the incident, but there was no report of any casualty, he said.
Mirza blamed the National Highway authority for the landslide and claimed that the cutting work being carried out by the agency without taking precautionary measures resulted in the landslide and subsequent damage to the tower and his house.
