The decision was taken after BJP held meetings with the Resident Welfare Associations of Rajouri Garden and Tagore Garden. This is part of their agitation to take on the city government through means other than sit-in demonstrations.
Subhash Arya, BJP Leader of House in South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and local councillor, said there are households in the city that will face a serious set back on their monthly budget due to the hike and therefore has to protest by refusing to keep a connection.
He said many households in Rajouri Garden area feel that the increased power tariff will badly affect their budget.
"After exploring all the options to keep a check on their monthly budget they have taken a hard decision to disconnect power connection," Arya said.
The mass application for disconnecting electricity will continue for three days, he said.
