The Powerloom Owners Association sources said non operation of nearly 1.5 lakh powerlooms would affect production loss of about Rs 25 crore worth fabrics per day.
Unit owners said that cloth traders, for whom they weave fabrics of different grades, had failed to implement the 2014 wage agreement, arrived at a tripartite meeting in the presence of the District Collectors.
Despite launching an indefinite stir some weeks ago, the traders were not willing to pay and the district administration also failed to intervene to sort out the problem and so they had given up the stir, the sources said.
As a last resort to exert pressure on both the administration and traders, unit owners took this step to stop production, seeking immediate clearance of arrears and also for wage revision due this year, the sources said.
