The People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) today demanded that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) be lifted from the districts of Tirap, Changlang and Longding.
"The AFSPA law is a legacy of the colonial era and its continuation is proof of a failed state and a helpless government," party's chief ministerial candidate Laeta Umbrey said in a press release.
He claimed that the 'carrot and stick policy' of the Centre, under the BJP as well as the Congress, miserably failed in the region and "it is time to retrospect and evolve a more humanitarian approach."
Umbrey advocated addressing the problem "not through the barrels of guns but through the democratic process of dialogue involving all the stakeholders.
