Gurung, who was born in Nepal, opened his show at Skylight Moynihan on Sunday with prayer chants by 24 orange-robed monks in remembrance of the earthquake that devastated his mountainous country on April 25, reported New York Daily News.
Despite his sadness for his home, Gurung expressed gratitude in a moving note that was included with his run-of-show.
"Today is about gratitude for all the kindness. Today is about renewed faith in the goodness of humanity. Today is about prayer and blessings for each of us here to follow our passion and make a difference."
Gorgeous flowing silks were in sunset-inspired oranges and yellows. Paintbrush strokes adorned flowing dresses. Golden embroidery was used in a Nepalese jewellery motif.
The nuanced show also packed a star-studded front row with Shaun Ross, Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Hudson and Gabrielle Union.
