Speaking at an event organised by the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) here today, Prabhu said if India has to emerge as a 'successful exporter', then it is necessary we become a 'successful manufacturer'.
"If Indian manufacturers have to become successful exporters, they have to integrate manufacturing with innovation. Domestic manufacturers cannot just set up a plant and forget about it. They will have to adopt innovation and technology to become competitive and successful," he said.
He noted that the railways will play a major role in achieving the desired economic growth of the country.
"If Railways become the backbone of transport, it will be cheaper and therefore will help grow the economy as well.
"The development of the stations will give a boost to the services industry but we are also working out plans how we can encourage the manufacturing sector as well," Prabhu added.
