Police officials said the control room receives around 3,000 calls daily, but only about 300 of them merit attention. The rest are about trivial incidents, or plain hoax.
"For the past few months, a group of youngsters is making calls and giving false information. They also use obscene language and make us uncomfortable," said a lady constable posted at the control room, talking to PTI.
These pranksters initially make calls for giving information about trivial incidents. Later, after becoming familiar with the voice of the lady constable on duty, they try to befriend her and use obscene language, she said.
"We have made a list of such callers and given it to the higher authorities, seeking action against them," she said.

Control room in-charge Mukesh Som said he had received the complaint and action was being taken. "We have given a warning to some of them and are going to register first information report against a few," Som said.
He added that some of these callers were minor and therefore police faced legal constrains in taking action.
