"Democracy is a form of government which we have chosen consciously and deliberately adopted as form of governance. Now is the age of Internet and we need to open up data available with government for public use, except those which are sensitive and have security implications," Prasad said at National Conference on Open Data and API.
As an example, the minister cited section 436 A of Code of Criminal Procedure under which an undertrial should be released if he has spent half of the time that can be awarded under the offence for which he has been booked on bail.
He also said that census data can be made available for development of quality research in the country.
