Goa Governor Mridula Sinha has stressed the need for pre-marital counseling to educate the current generation on the importance of the institution of marriage.
The Governor said that the Union and State government should make pre-marital counseling mandatory for marriage registration of all communities.
The Governor was speaking after inaugurating a pre-marital counseling programme at Goa University today.
"Pre-marital counseling has become a norm in society. It is essential to educate our youth of their rights and responsibilities in marriage. A healthy and happy family life is a sign of a healthy society. Counseling helps to build a stable society," Sinha said.
Addressing the gathering thereafter, Goa Universitys Vice Chancellor Prof Varun Sahni said that the pre-marital counseling centre will be located at the Goa University campus.
The program will be conducted through the Goa State Resource Centre for Women, an initiative taken by National Mission for Empowerment of Women, Ministry of Women and Child Welfare.
He said that it will work towards building a holistic model of empowerment by educating young minds to lead a happy life.
The date of commencement of the centre would be announced soon, he said.
