Haryana Congress today flayed the BJP-led state government for its alleged failure to get the drains de-silted and gear-up the administration in the districts ahead of monsoon.
The sharp pre-monsoon showers that lashed parts of the state, especially Gurgaon, Hisar and Bhiwani, had spelled chaos and resulted in knee-deep water in many localities, laying bare all claims of the government on being rains-ready, Leader of Haryana Congress Legislature Party Kiran Choudhry claimed.
It showed that the orders on de-silting of drains were yet to be implemented, the administration had been sleeping over them, and was far from being prepared to face the rains, she alleged in a statement.
"A good spell of pre-monsoon showers in Hisar exposed the poor drainage system of several localities, including the civil hospital, bus-stand and the main markets got submerged, exposing the poor state of the civic infrastructure, she said.
At the hospital in Hisar, patients and visitors had a tough time wading through knee-deep water. The bus stand, auto market, wholesale market, grain market, urban estate, police lines and several other localities were inundated, she said.
"Similarly, it was total chaos in Gurgaon after two hours of rainfall. All key roads were waterlogged and even posh colonies such as DLF and Sushant Lok were inundated.
"The Gurgaon Expressway came to a virtual halt with people stranded inside their vehicles and water logging in posh localities on the Golf Course Road and DLF area kept people locked inside their homes. The situation in Bhiwani was worse," Choudhry added.
