In order to minimise the effects of heavy rains and safe running of trains, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has planned precautionary steps.
General Manager, ECoR, Rajiv Vishnoi has directed officials to be on full alert towards any incident caused by the rains and flood situation near tracks for safety of passengers and smooth train operations.
"We have taken all precautionary measures prior to the onset of monsoon. The catch water drains and side drains have been cleared of silt, vegetation and other obstructions to ensure free flow of rain water. The waterways of bridges have been cleared of vegetation and other obstructions," a senior railway official said.
Full Supply Level (FSL) of canals and Danger Level (DL) in case of bridges have been painted with bright red band across each pier adjacent to the abutments to make them clearly visible to the patrolmen, stationery watchman and Drivers, he said.
Arrangements have also been made not to allow water to stagnate on the tracks. In station yards, the drains have been cleared, he said.
Instructions have been issued that during heavy rains, the sectional gangmen would organise patrolling of tracks to make sure that the tracks were safe for passage of trains and ensure protection at all locations, divisional officials said.
Arrangements have been made to stock sufficient quantities of monsoon reserve material like boulders, sand, cinder, quarry dust and ballast at identified locations. The engineering relief vans and their equipments were kept ready.
This apart, the ECoR was in constant touch with the IMD and on getting weather alerts, proper mobilisation was being done, they said.
ECoR control office, which works round-the-clock, was keeping close liaison with Met Department and Disaster Management Cell, the officials added.
