Pregnant woman commits suicide

A pregnant woman has allegedly committed suicide at her in-laws' house in South-East Delhi, police said today.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Preeti and the body was found by her husband Sumit last night. Sumit saw her hanging from the ceiling fan using a dupatta at their residence in Taimoor Nagar area here.
The family members of the woman have alleged that she was being harassed by her in-laws for dowry and that she was poisoned and murdered. Police have detained her husband and in-laws for questioning.
Neighbours told police that her in-laws were going to cremate her without informing anyone but one of the locals saw this and called up the police.

Sumit and Preeti got married three years ago and she was pregnant. Preeti's brother told the police that she was stressed as their demand for dowry was increasing and they had also demanded a car from them.
Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered at New Friends Colony police station under appropriate provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and further investigation is going on.
