He succeeds Prakash Parthasarathy, the current Managing Partner and CIO, who has decided to pursue his entrepreneurial aspirations, a release said.
Kurien, Executive Vice Chairman and Member of the Board at IT major Wipro will retire from the company on January 31, 2017.
"TK (Kurien) with his decades of experience in running startups and established enterprises and deep financial acumen is best positioned to take Premji Invest to the next level," Premji Invest Chairman Azim Premji said.

Commenting on his appointment, Kurien said he is deeply honored by the trust reposed in him to lead Premji Invest, an important fiduciary organization in supporting the philanthropic goals of Azim Premji.
Popularly known as TK within the industry circles, Kurien had earlier served Wipro as its CEO from February 2011 to January 2016.
