In a letter written to Badal, Kaur raised the pitiable condition of government-run Rajindra Hospital.
"Yesterday, I visited those admitted in the Model Town dispensary here as also in the Rajindra Hospital. Apart from the plight of the indoor patients what shocked me most was the poor condition of Rajindra Hospital," she wrote.
She said a large chunk of population of Badungar locality is in the grip of gastroenteritis, which has so far left three persons dead and hundreds hospitalised.
"There is hardly any household of Badungar locality which is not affected," she wrote, adding that "what adds to the distress of the patients, their attendants and the staff also, is the poor maintenance of sanitation (at the hospital)".
Enquiries made on the spot revealed that sewerage system in the hospital had remained blocked for more than six months, no phenyl or any other cleansing substance has been procured for the hospital for the last five years, she said.
"I have also learnt that a portion of prime land of the hospital has been sold by the government. The sale-proceeds, I believe, will be spent on the development of the hospital," she added.
