Wahengbam Nanao alias Raghu was apprehended from Gandhi Vihar on Sunday following investigations into a tip off by Manipur Police, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjay Yadav here.

Nanao, second in command of PREPAK's Bishnupur area unit, was allegedly involved in a case of attempt to murder and Explosive Substances Act registered in Imphal East in Manipur.

"On his directions, a hand grenade was lobbed at the house of a forest officer in Wangkhei in Imphal East," Kumar said.

A fortnight back, he allegedly made a Rs five lakh extortion demand call to the forest officer from Delhi on the directions of Rajen Singh, a self styled district commander of PREPAK. Nanao also allegedly made a cadre Ingba to lob the hand grenade on June 16.

"Ingba was arrested in Manipur and he told police about Nanao. Nanao told us about some hideouts in Manipur where arms and ammunition have been kept hidden," Kumar said.

Nanao had been earlier arrested in 2004 and 2008 in Manipur for his alleged involvement in terror activities. Two mobile phones, eight SIM cards, including 2 International SIM cards, and a laptop have been recovered from his hideout at Wazirabad.

He had joined the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) in 2001 as an overground worker and three years later he joined PREPAK as a cadre.

After getting bail in 2008, Kumar claimed, he went to Myanmar and underwent arms training for a month. Thereafter he went to Nepal and stayed there for some time.

He came to Delhi in 2011 and stayed at different areas of the national capital. He had been asked to make calls to people in Manipur for extorting money, Kumar said.
