A parliamentary panel has asked the Centre to formulate a blueprint for extending financial assistance to HIV/AIDS patients and to family members of those infected persons who died.
The Committee of Petitions on Health Ministry in its 28th report submitted in Lok Sabha today said the government should undertake consultations with states to formulate a blueprint as there is an absence of a universal policy or integrated approach for providing such assistance to HIV/AIDS patients.
"In the absence of a universal policy and an integrated approach for providing financial assistance to HIV/AIDS patients and later on to the family of the deceased, the Committee urge the government to undertake an extensive consultation process with all state governments to formulate a blueprint for extending some financial assistance to HIV/AIDS patients and to the family members of the deceased HIV/AIDS infected patients," the committee chaired by Bhagat Singh Koshyari said.
The committee asked the Health Ministry to apprise it of the renewed efforts in this regard.
The committee noted that in the "resource deficient" scenario, illness could impose a major financial burden on the HIV/AIDS patients and their families.
