The Committee of Petitions on Health Ministry in its 28th report submitted in Lok Sabha today said the government should undertake consultations with states to formulate a blueprint as there is an absence of a universal policy or integrated approach for providing such assistance to HIV/AIDS patients.
"In the absence of a universal policy and an integrated approach for providing financial assistance to HIV/AIDS patients and later on to the family of the deceased, the Committee urge the government to undertake an extensive consultation process with all state governments to formulate a blueprint for extending some financial assistance to HIV/AIDS patients and to the family members of the deceased HIV/AIDS infected patients," the committee chaired by Bhagat Singh Koshyari said.
The committee noted that in the "resource deficient" scenario, illness could impose a major financial burden on the HIV/AIDS patients and their families.
