President greets people on Durga Puja
Press Trust of India Kolkata President Pranab Mukherjee today extended warm greetings and good wishes to people on the occasion of Durga Puja and hoped that the festival would strengthen the moral foundation of society and turn people away from all that divides and destroys.
In a tweet, the President also prayed to god to instill a spirit of brotherhood and love for all.
"Warm greetings & good wishes to all my fellow countrymen both in India & abroad on the joyous occasion of Durga Puja. Durga Puja represents triumph of truth over untruth, good over evil, light over darkness & knowledge over ignorance," Mukherjee, who is presently in his ancestral house in Birbhum district of Bengal, said in the tweet.
"May Goddess Durga guide us on to the path of justice, truth and wisdom. Let us pray to the Universal Mother to instill in us a spirit of brotherhood and love for all. May this festival strengthen the moral foundations of our society and turn us away from all that divides and destroys," Mukherjee tweeted.
The President had yesterday expressed serious apprehension over whether tolerance and acceptance of dissent had been on the wane in the country.
