Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today hoped that the three day-long Conference of Presiding Officers of Legislative Bodies of the country here would led to uniformity in the functioning of state assemblies.
"Conferences of this kind not only help in facilitating the process of deliberations on issues related to the procedural rules but also in bringing uniformity in the functioning of state assemblies," Yadav said in his inaugural speech.
"The presiding officers through their experience and exchange of views in these conferences pave such a path that lends a helping hand to the efficient performance of state legislatures," he said.
On the challenges faced by speakers, Yadav said, "It has been noticed in the last few years that the presiding officers have to deal with several difficult situations. Many a time, some such moments arise before them that make them to take hard decisions," he said.
"It has been my experience that conducting the working of the house is not an easy job," he said.
"These conferences are being organised since 1921 and we are fortunate that UP has got an opportunity to host it after a long gap..It was earlier held here in 1961 and 1985," he said.
