The Press Club of India here has condemned the paint smearing attack on ORF chief Sudheendra Kulkarni over his refusal to cancel the book launch of former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, and called upon the Maharashtra government to take immediate action against the culprits.
"We feel that the state government needs to send a strong message on this issue considering the spate of attacks on Maharashtra-based journalists and writers," Press Club of India said in a statement.
"The government needs to ensure that it's commitment to maintaining peace and democracy is steadfast and that any person attempting to endanger the constitutional guarantee of our freedom to express shall be strongly dealt with," it stated.
Shiv Sena activists today blackened the face of Kulkarni at the book launch function of Kasuri in Mumbai, drawing strong condemnation from political parties.
Shiv Sainiks intercepted the car of Kulkarni, chairman of the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), a foreign policy think tank, just outside his Matunga home and painted his face black.
