Press Club of India has urged the government to get the land earmarked to it here for constructing its new building from a Lok Sabha MP, who has been allotted the bungalow on the same land.
The MP, Dilip Gandhi, who represents Ahmednagar Lok Sabha constituency, said there was a misunderstanding but there was no issue now as Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has told him about the allotment of the land on his bungalow to PCI.
Gandhi, a three-time MP, said when he was allotted the bungalow he was not aware of the fact that this bungalow had already been allotted to PCI by the earlier government.
"Now that my seniors have told me about the factual position, there is no issue left," he added indicating he would vacate it when he gets an alternative bungalow.
Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu has been supportive of its effort, the PCI said.
PCI has paid the required amount to the government for the lease of the land on which its new building is to come up.
"For more than 55 years, the PCI has operated from the ramshackle World War II barracks on Raisina Road, and the need for a modern building in keeping with the status of the institution as an active centre for journalists from all parts of the country with work and entertainment facilities, has been long felt," it said.
