Press Clubs of Mumbai and Karachi urge Indo-Pakistan peace

Stressing that peace is the need of the hour, the Mumbai Press Club and the Karachi Press Club issued a joint appeal today to the governments of India and Pakistan to resolve the issues of tension on the Line of Control(LoC) and the international border in Jammu and Kashmir through dialogue.
"We appeal to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to meet on the sidelines of the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) summit during November-end in Kathmandu to resolve the immediate issues of tension," a joint statement issued by both the press clubs said.

"We sincerely believe that for the progress and development of both the countries, and for South Asia in general, enduring peace between India and Pakistan is necessary. There is no other way to move forward, but dialogue," the joint statement issued by Chairman of the Mumbai Press Club Gurbir Singh and Secretary of the Karachi Press Club Aamir Latif said.
The press clubs of Mumbai and Karachi also requested governments of the two countries to allow journalists of either country to work and travel freely in order to encourage free flow of news and information.
"Today, unfortunately there are no Pakistani journalists in India and Indian journalists in Pakistan. This has been a step backwards. We urge that free reporting and movement of accredited journalists will help us advance to a better understanding of each other," the joint statement said.

The joint statement said that the press clubs of Mumbai and Karachi have shared sisterly relations for the past three years and both the press clubs have jointly helped to promote peace in the region.
