Press Council reconstituted for 3-yr term

The Press Council of India (PCI) has been reconstituted by the government for a three year term, but the name of the chairman is yet to be announced.
According to a gazette notification, MPs nominated to the body are Meenakshi Lekhi, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, G Hari, Prabhat Jha and Satyabrat Chaturvedi.
The other members are Editor of Weekly Tej Ramesh Gupta, Editor of Chhapte Chhapte Bipin Newar, Editor of Muzaffarnagar Bulletin Uttam Chandra Sharma, Editor of Janmorcha Suman Gupta, Group Editor of Dainik Bhaskar Prakash Dubey and Editor-in-chief of Outlook (English) Krishna Prasad.
Working journalists other than editors in the newly reconstituted body are Kosuri Amarnath, Prabhat Kumar Dash, Rajeev Ranjan Nag, Prajnananda Chaudhuri, S N Singh, Sondeep Shankar and C K Nayak.
Hormunsji N Cama and Ravindra Kumar have been nominated from the big newspaper catergory while Kundra Raman Lal Vyas and Gurinder Singh have been elected from the medium newspaper category.
Vijay Kumar Chopra and Keshav Dutt Chandola have been nominated from small newspaper catergory.

Editor of PTI G Sudhakar Nair has been nominated in the category of persons who manage news agencies.
Members nominated to PCI from different organisations are Pankaj Vohra by UGC, Ramchander Rao N by Bar Council of India and Dr K Sreenivasarao by Sahitya Akademi.
The new members will be meeting on October 27 to elect a member who would be representing PCI in the search committee to elect the new PCI chairman.
Justice (Retd) Markandey Katju is the current chairman of the council.
