Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today slammed the previous Congress government in the state, alleging that it was run by "tired and retired" officers and corruption was at peak during that dispensation.

Addressing a public meeting at Paonta Sahib in Sirmour district, he alleged that the previous government embarrassed the people of the state and sullied the image of 'Dev Bhumi' (land of Gods).

During the Congress dispensation, the rape and murder of a school girl in Kotkhai area of Shimla and the mysterious death of forest guard Hoshiyar Singh, tarnished the image of the state, Thakur alleged.

The chief minister said the main task of his government was to restore the faith of the people in police and other investigating agencies, and ensure their safety and security.

Asserting that the BJP government would take strict action against those found guilty of corruption, he said all cases would be dealt on their merit and there would be no political vendetta.

The chief minister said that his main focus would be on uniform and balanced development of the entire state and ensure prosperity for all.

The government was committed to providing transparent, clean and accountable administration with focus on welfare of people, Thakur said, adding, "I am a member of the state assembly for the past 20 years and have seen 20 budgets. But the budget presented by this government won appreciation of all sections of society."
